This is quite a nasty storm we got over here today!

The streets are flooded. I didn't even try to venture out of the house. I've been hiding out from hoomans.

Remember this strange post? I'm literally fighting myself because I definitely saw something that wasn't quite human.

Thursday, I was prepared to toss DH to his parents. We had the monster truck rally of fights. My mom begged me not to throw him out. DH has the yiddishkiet bug now and since I want no part of it right now; I figured that was the best course of action.

Then I had a seizure because I was majorly angered. I slept on and off. Meanwhile, DH prayed to Hashem that he would die in his sleep since he felt he was no longer useful and he hurt me too much. Then da hubster just asked Hashem to help us because he didn't know what to do anymore.
We went for a late night shopping trip to Pathmark. Why would I see someone walking out of the library and locking up at 3 AM? Then this person said hello to me and I said hello back. But DH didn't see him. I figured that he wasn't paying attention as usual.

Then I saw this person again on the boardwalk on the way back from market. DH saw him too. He wasn't a ghost; but he wasn't human either. Why do I say this? Because I didn't see his feet plus he smelled like roses. (too long to explain that one...if someone knows plop it in the comments please?)

So he chatted with DH and I for a few minutes. His name was Michael. Of course we talked about the New York mag thing because everybody has been talking about it. He asked the typical "why do you want to convert?" question. He told me that I was over-thinking the conversion thing; I'm using someone else's approach that is antithetical to me. Then he told me a specific place to go to in BK. A typical 4AM boardwalk conversation. Then we went our separate ways. I turned around and he disappeared.

Anyone who has ever been on the boardwalk knows you can see people at least 5 - 8 blocks ahead. He literally disappeared.
I hate it when these things happen to me. Now I feel like I just got a draft notice to go to war.

Why did Hashem make me a freak of nature?

WHY????????

<lj-embed id="201" />

  When the morons in my ex-boyfriend's community college thought Video Music Box was coming down there. Xeroxes of a handwritten signs stating, "The Box LIVE 4pm in the gym" were posted all over the school. I said, "I don't think that's Video Music Box." He told me, "you listen to white music; what do you know about Video Music Box?" I said, "Well I know they ain't coming here! VMB would have used a logo, duh!" He grumbled, "Sister, you don't know what you're talking about!"

Of course, the mean side of me had to see this go down...

3 P.M.: I made sure that I got ringside seats for this one. Already, 200 kids showed up.

3:30 P.M.: "Hey Bilal... where the video cameras; where the lights?" With an icy glare, he responded, "They must be running late." "Aah... they're running on colored people time. Well, they're gonna be really late because they ain't coming" Dummy ex gives the :eyeroll:

4 P.M.: The gym was filled with almost 400 black students eagerly awaiting Video Music Box.

4:15 P.M.: Two white boys are setting up sound equipment. "So I guess, the Box is an EOE Bilal?" :eyeroll: from dummy. Meanwhile, a hundred more kids filtered in.

4:45 P.M. A petite white chick saunters up to the stage. Thanks everyone for being there and starts singing her song.

Imagine 500 hoodies with a dumbfounded look on their faces...
Priceless!

Mouths agape. They were so shocked they couldn't even cuss. I started laughing so hard and so loudly, I nearly pee'd myself!

After the first song, everyone walked out.

EX started to walk out too... "Oh no, no, no! You came here to see the Box. You gonna stay here and finish watching The Box. After all you know so much about hip-hop!" I taunted him further by speaking to "The Box" after their performance. This happened over a decade ago and I still LMAO thinking about it. If it's one thing I know it's old school hip-hop.

Enjoy the original theme song for Video Music Box (Whodini: Five Minutes of Funk):
<lj-embed id="178" />
P.S.
LJ strike...or what does LJ have against faeries?

Talk of the strike have been circling around. Ever since the big delete, things have gotten hairy here.

Now LGBT journals are being censored. I know some people don't agree with homosexuality. However, a "community" based company can't afford to get moralistic. What really cheeses me off are the strange "Cure Autism Now!" and "Asperger's school" pop-ups. Just let me write in peace dangit!

Now the word "fairy" brings three things off the top of my head:
Dishwashing liquid
Mythological creatures
gay men

So I'd better not talk about the winged elves (suffering from Streisand addiction) that I rescued from an oil slick and cleaned up with dishwashing detergent. Death is OK with LJ but faeries are not?! WTF?!

So I will participate in the strike and won't be back until Sunday night. See ya on the other side of the fence!

Here's the numbers for ya: Which one of these doesn't not quite belong?

The one-day content strike is on for this Friday, March 21, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT. Here that translates to Thursday, March 20, 5:00 PM -

For 24 hours, we will not post or comment to LJ. Not in our own journals, not in communities. Not publicly, privately, or under friends-lock.

Why? Because the new owners of LJ said they were going to listen to a user driven advisory board before making any changes, and didn't. They instead tried to take away all GLBT related interest groups, and were about to take away all free, ad free accounts as well and make LJ paid. Basic/free users help drive this site! And paid or not, our interests should not be dictated to us.

This is a protest that will have long-lasting effects, showing up forever in the daily posting statistics.

This is a protest that will not harm LJ in the long run, as leaving LJ might do.

This is a protest that will demonstrate the power of community, as all users unite to support Basic users and the concept of ad-free space.

This is a protest that will educate the new owners that LJ is driven by user-created content.

Content Strike Friday March 21, from midnight to midnight GMT

* We are holding the Content Strike because we want to demonstrate that LiveJournal is content-driven.
* We are holding the Content Strike because we want the new owners of LiveJournal to better understand the power and resolve of the LJ Community of Users.
* We are holding the Content Strike because all of us, Paid, Permanent and Plus users as well as Basic, want to demonstrate our solidarity as a Community of Users. We do not consider Basic users to be freeloaders, we consider them to be valuable content-providers and Friends.
* We are holding the Content Strike because we ache to do something to show our displeasure, and commenting on the news post -- even with cat macros -- just isn't powerful enough!

---------------------------------------

The strike has three terms:

1. Restore basic accounts for new account creation.
2. Inform users before any change to the site that affects how we use the site or demands on our resources.
3. Run change proposals by the Advisory Board and take their advice into account before implementation of any change.

***

The 24-hour strike will begin at the following times for the following locations:

Thursday, March 20, 2:00 PM -- Honolulu
Thursday, March 20, 4:00 PM -- Anchorage
Thursday, March 20, 5:00 PM -- San Francisco; Los Angeles -
Thursday, March 20, 6:00 PM -- Mexico City; Denver - Navajo Nations in AZ.
Thursday, March 20, 7:00 PM -- Chicago
Thursday, March 20, 8:00 PM -- Montreal; New York
Thursday, March 20, 9:00 PM -- Buenos Aires
Midnight -- London
Friday, March 21, 1:00 AM -- Paris
Friday, March 21, 2:00 AM -- Istanbul
Friday, March 21, 3:00 AM -- Moscow
Friday, March 21, 4:00 AM -- Dubai
Friday, March 21, 5:00 AM -- Islamabad
Friday, March 21, 6:00 AM -- Bangladesh
Friday, March 21, 7:00 AM -- Bangkok
Friday, March 21, 8:00 AM -- Singapore
Friday, March 21, 9:00 AM -- Tokyo
Friday, March 21, 10:00 AM -- Brisbane
Friday, March 21, 11:00 AM -- Sydney
Friday, March 21, 12 Noon -- Suva

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------

How Can I Help?

DO post about this in your own LJ.
DO post and comment about it in appropriate communities.
DO remember that it's based on Greenwich Mean Time, which may not be your local time.
DO turn off LoudTwitter and your RSS feeds for 24 hours.

DON'T forget to get permission from community mods before making an off-topic post or comment about the strike.
DON'T be spammy with your posts or comments about the strike.
DON'T forget to turn your LoudTwitter and RSS feeds back on when the strike is over.
DON'T post anything on LJ from midnight to midnight March 21 (see above times for your actual start time)

Not too many kids in my building had two parents in the household.

In terms of my parents education, neither of them finished elementary school. <lj:music>Bill Withers: Lovely Day</lj:music>

DH is *crunchy. I think think he gets that from his mother. She's an anti-meat, anti-sweet, anti-anything tasty type of woman.

I remember when DS was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. The neurodevelopment specialist strongly suggested that I switch to organic. I just looked at her like she was crazy because at the time I was living in the projects. Plus, I buy groceries with food stamps.

Huh?

See I fell into the trap of thinking eating organic equalled PETA freaks who loved the smell of their own brand. Here's more on this in the NYT article, Mass Natural.

When we were living in Chilltown, we belonged to an organic food co-op. It was fabulous because we spent $40 a month for the organic fruits/veggies. (Keep in mind this was almost 10 years ago at this point.) We got our fruits and veggies biweekly. You only had to volunteer once a month sorting the boxes. They even have kosher pods. I cried when we had to move.
If I can find a kosher pod around here that would be fabulous!

The other thing is that the last time I ate organic, standards were stricter back then. Once the USDA got their grubby little mitts on "organic" the standards are sorely lacking. Now I can see why people keep *CY.

Now, that I'm sicky sick I'm forced to go green. For everyone's sake.

I did buy Shaklee's Get Clean Starter Kit. This stuff is spectacular and it's not strong smelliing. I was so terrified because of Seventh Generation and all those traditionally green brands. I love Method products too!

I found this article about Going Organic on the Cheap.

I also found this article on NYT, Five Easy Ways to Go Organic.

Milk is at the top of the list...gah! Oy, oy, oy...

When I was in Brooklyn shopping for Pesach, I was shocked to find organic kosher chicken that wasn't very pricey. It only cost a dollar more than the regular stuff. Still very, very expensive compared to non-kosher chicken.

Who ever on my f-list who is crunchy, slightly soggy, or anywhere in-between give a holla and sound off on this...

DH is dead set against giving DS meds. Unfortunately, meds may make more sense fiscally. Medicaid will pay for those. My food stamps aren't going to get raised because I keep kosher and/or organic.

Meh!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
glossy:
crunchy
Adjective. Used to describe persons who have adjusted or altered their lifestyle for environmental reasons. Crunchy persons tend to be politically strongly left-leaning and may be additionally but not exclusively categorized as vegetarians, vegans, eco-tarians, conservationists, environmentalists, neo-hippies, tree huggers, nature enthusiasts, etc.
Also used to describe establishments where alternative foods and products are sold, i.e. natural food stores.
Modified derivative of granola.
CY: cholov yisroel.  Dairy products supervised by an Yid from milking to packing.
pod: local subgroup of an organic co-op.
    <lj:music>Junior Senior: Itch U Can't Skratch</lj:music>
My apartment is quaint (re: tiny.)  On top of that I'm dealing with a DH who has an addiction to milk crates.
As a DJ I must say this... milk crates are for LPs NOT home decor!
So to that end I'm rolling up my sleeves and putting on my thinking cap!
Some tips I got from the digsmagazine.com boards:
*  Furniture that does at least double duty. Like trunks that can be seating or tables, ottomons that can be spare seating or storage, etc.
*  Underbed storage for out-of-season clothes.
*  High shelves in the bathroom for spare towels, baskets of extra toilet paper and shampoo.
*  Furniture with built-in storage, especially doors (instead of open shelves)
*  Large, lidded baskets or leather boxes that you can stack are also great for nice looking storage.
*  Also, take advantage of the vertical space - use tall shelves or install your own right up to the ceiling. It will not only maximize your storage, but make the ceilings feel higher as well.
* Open shelving.
*  Avoid visual clutter!
I already have:
one bookshelf
space saver over the toilet
coat rack
cd case
My priority are the living room, kitchen, and the bathroom because those are the places that guests are most likely to see.
I have 3 coupons left for BB&B so I'm going to put them to use.
Living Room
a cute basket, baskets, or lidded boxes
a storage ottoman that doubles as seating/coffee table.
Kitchen
working the cabinets to their full advantage by making them as efficient as possible.
Like getting a stemware rack and this undershelf rack for my dishes
A cleaning supply caddy to keep them corraled!
A Microwave cart? with shelves to free up my countertop
Bathroom
Shower Caddies for everyone in the house.  Everyone in my household have their own products.  I think this will corral a good chunk of the toiletries.
space saver
baskets for spare TP
cute jars to hold cotton balls, q-tips, and those small things
Any other ideas peeps?
The SR Shabbos special saves my skin and sanity for only $18.50)
Sunday (the tomorrow that I put off yesterday)
-change linens
-bake cakes/cookies
Monday
-do laundry
-clean bathroom (I do spot cleaning in the bathroom daily.  This is the full out cleaning.  Lest anyone think I is nizzasty!)
Tuesday
-Grocery shop
-tear floss, foil, paper towels, tape
Wed
-fold and put away laundry
-vacuum the furniture/rugs
-dust
Thursday
-Cook for Shabbos (in my case, I would call in my Shabbos orders at SR/butcher and cook whatever goodies I need for shabbos.)
-Set the table fully
-fill up hot water pot
-put up blech/plata
-put away muktzah toys
-set up candles
-tissues in bathrooms
-rooms are clean
Friday
-Pick up Shabbos orders.
-Shower, rest, cut nails
-clean kitchen*
-check AC/heat
-check lights, timers, fridge light
* I often stretched cleaning the kitchen over the week:  Clean out the fridge on Monday before shopping on Tuesday.  I would clean the counter/table on Thursday night before setting up the plata.  I would sweep/mop the floors on Friday.
Even with this it was very difficult.  Often I would have to choose one or two tasks a day and feel wrung out.  I think for some folks cleaning help is necessary for sanity sake.  However, the sense of entitlement that this chick has was just mind boggling.  Then other this other lady said that those who don't have cleaning help resent those who can afford it.
I don't think it's resentment.  I think they are fighting the urge to smack these snotty princesses upside the head.
Laters,
Spike
I've been getting voicemails every since I got my new phone number from Chrysler collections for a "Angie Young".  Since they were collections I couldn't call them back.
Wednesday, I happened to answer the phone when they called.  I told him he had the wrong number.  He apologized and I thought that was the end of it.
Then erev Shabbos, they called again!  I was bemused the first time.  Now I was annoyed.  Especially when the collections agent thought I was playing games.  I told them that I'm not "Angie Young."  Well apparently, this chick's maiden name was Angelina Ross.  I told her that she got the wrong one.  I had to break it down to her.  I told her I recently moved and only had this phone number for a few months.  "Are you sure?" I said, "Look, I don't even HAVE a Driver's License!"
I wanted to make sure that someone wasn't stupid enough to try stealing my identity.  So I asked her what SSN she had on the account.  She told me she couldn't tell me that.  OK you think it's me but you can't tell me?! (I was pissed at this point!)  So I told her to give me the last four digits of the SSN.
BH, they didn't match!  She asked me if it could be a chance of this chick being a relative of mine.
I told her no because I was the only one that was named after my grandmother and there was a nil chance of being anyone from that side of the family.  Furthermore, if I get another call from them I will sue them for harassment.
Tres weird!
